Movie stills

Claudia with actor Alex Veadov

Claudia with actors Steve Eastin and Alex Veadov (right)

A couple weeks ago, I shot stills on a short film that Claudia stars in- the whole film is shot around a poker table, so they used a Chimera Lantern as a mainlight. In the wide shot below, you can see its placement just above the table, lighting all the actor's faces evenly. If you want the same even light in still photography you can also try using a cheap paper Chinese lantern with a speedlight (or studio strobe place inside, just like The Stobist's David Hobby describes here.

The actual film itself? It's called "Jesus Comes To Town", directed by Kamal John Iskander. In short, I'd say it's a dark comedic, short film about Jesus showing up at a poker table. (And very Jim Jarmusch -y, which I love!) Kamal shot it all on 16mm B&W film, so to hold true to his vision, I did B&W conversions of all the stills (shot of course in color with my Nikon D700).

I hope to see this one at Sundance this year!
