Quick portrait lighting at PhotoPlus
I just returned home to L.A. from the PhotoPlus Expo in New York, after traveling what seems like non-stop for the past month. (PhotoPlus is an absolute candy store megapolis if you have even the most remote interest in anything photography)
I went to a small gathering for fellow Lexar Elite Photographers at Bar Baresca Wednesday night, and met one of my long-time inspirations, Greg Gorman. If you haven't seen Greg's work lately, take a moment or 2 at jump over to his website. Now that I have a coffee table again, I'll be placing his book Volume 1, on it as soon as I unpack from my move.
Lynn Goldsmith was there too, another photographer I've always had great admiration for. Just her music portfolio alone is a who's who. See Lynn's work here
After sitting down with drinks and hors d'oeuvres with Pop Photo editors Phil Ryan, Jack Howard, Debbie Grossman, Kathleen Davis, and Dan Richards, I headed to my hotel and stopped for an obligatory Nathan's hot dog on the walk back.
Photoflex had a really great set of lighting tools and model Diana Ferrante available for me, and on Thursday and Friday I had a chance to show off my lighting using a few different combinations of MultiDomes, Octodomes, and reflectors. For the above shot I used a 3' Octodome with grid and gold interior just to the right of Diana's face, and bounced a slight bit of fill on her left with a MultiDisc (on the gold/silver zebra pattern). The background was lit with a Starflash 650 with a grid.
Photoflex has also introduced an updated XS Litedome, and I'll write more in-depth about it later this week (stay tuned). As you know, I use the XS extensively when I travel.
